Project overview

Many people don't have the opportunity to earn wealth created within their own neighborhoods. The wealth inequality gap continues to widen, and affordable housing and gentrification are becoming increasingly concerning for too many Americans.

In the neighborhood of Echo Park in Los Angeles, only 20% of residents owned local property in 2019.

Nico, a neighborhood investment company, came to enso wanting to disrupt this exclusionary real estate approach and help more people build a long-term financial stake in their community.

At launch, Nico offered shares in its real estate portfolio starting at $100, radically lowering the threshold to real estate investing.

MY ROLE

I worked with an agile team to conduct local stakeholder interviews and desktop research to understand what makes Echo Park special to Angelenos.

I then led an intensive 2-day collaborative sprint, working directly with the Nico co-founders and enso team to establish the startup’s brand positioning, narrative and shared mission to help people build a long-term financial stake in their communities by investing in local real estate.

I was the lead copywriter and messaging strategist for the content on nico’s new website, mynico.com. I scripted the company’s animated “How It Works” video, explaining its innovative model of a neighborhood real estate investment trust (REIT).
